SciFi Month 2022: Anticipated Reads

I am always conscious of the fact that I do not read as much SciFi as I do fantasy, but it is always hard to get myself to keep aside enough reading time. So why not list a couple of upcoming SciFi books that I find interesting?

This is my blog post to fit into the prompt: “Good things come to those who …wait”.

Book covers link to Goodreads, so you can click on through.

Al Hess isn’t just an author, he are also an artist. The cover you see on this book have been oil-painted by him. Just how talented can a person be? I have been waiting to get my hands on this one. It follows the story of a salvager who dreams of getting a citizenship in futuristic Salt Lake City, and a once-powerful AI in Salt Lake City who is sent to tempt the former into a job that offers a visa into Salt Lake City. I am all for reading this. This will be published by Angry Robot books in February 2023.

This is a first contact tale that has been described as “edge of your seat” by Garth L Powell. It is the story of the investigation launch due to loss of communication from Paradise-1, Earth’s first deep space colony. I would like to read more first-contact stories, and I won’t lie, that cover really drew me in. Who does not like a potential black and glossy book? This will be published by Orbit Books in April 2023.

The first line in the official synopsis states that this book is perfect for the fans of Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, and Kim Stanley Robinson. I loved Becky Chambers’ Monk and Robot series. I haven’t read all the Murderbot books, but I did love the first entry and plan to return to reading their exploits when I can. So, I definitely cannot resist this one. I will likely make a purchase as soon as I can. I won’t try to butcher the premise in an attempt to summarize it, so don’t forget to take a look at the synopsis on Goodreads, the cover here links you there. This will be published by Tor Books in the U.S. and Orbit in the U.K. in January 2023.

Did any of these catch your attention, or do you already have them on your TBR? Are there any you particularly look forward to? Let me know so I can add to my TBR pile, which now rivals the Himalayan range.

  1. The Terraformers has an astounding cover, really eye-catching and it sounds promising, but the one that intrigues me the most is Al Hess’ book. I hope you would enjoy all of them!
